You can’t grow on Instagram if you aren’t cultivating an audience that actually cares about your work and what you have to say. Posting once or twice a week is not enough.

Meet Jamey gannon: A branding specialist, gen-z designer, instagram strategist and co-founder of continuum

Jamey is the co-founder of Continuum, the all-in-one platform for collaborative freelance work.
Jamey helps her clients translate their brands to their communities through authentic and value-driven content, plus some pretty killer aesthetics.

It’s such a pleasure to have you on the #DESIGNWITHDOT blog Jamey!

1. Jamey, how do you come up with your IG content?

Most of my content comes from aha moments I have myself or from questions my audience asks me. It’s impossible for me to create content I wouldn’t absolutely love myself.

2. What is your best advice for a designer looking to grow on IG?

Actually use the app and find friends. You can’t grow on Instagram if you aren’t cultivating an audience that actually cares about your work and what you have to say. Posting once or twice a week is not enough.

3. What’s your dream? (Where do you want to see your life and the world in 10 years? Year 2031!?

In ten years, I’d like to be the go-to for start-up branding and social media strategy (specifically my gen-z peers). Or potentially co-founding another start-up, if the right idea falls into my lap. Heck – I may still be leading creative at Continuum!

01

It’s incredible being able to build something that empowers freelancers and young creatives like myself. My role, Creative Marketing Director, has also given me the space to really execute what I’m passionate about and learn so much about content creation, management, and the VC world.

4. You’ve worked with so many amazing people and projects. What has been your favorite experience in your career so far?

Working with my co-founder Jason on Continuum has by far been been my favorite experience. It’s incredible being able to build something that empowers freelancers and young creatives like myself. My role, Creative Marketing Director, has also given me the space to really execute what I’m passionate about and learn so much about content creation, management, and the VC world.

5. What advice would you give to your younger self 10 years ago?

Well, I would have been 8! I think I would have told myself to pursue theatre (more so than dance, what I did for 9 years.) Also to have been a nicer daughter.

6. What are your thoughts on social media? Hate it? Can’t live with out it? Give us your best social media tip or insight!

Love it. Definitely addicted in some capacities.

My best tip is to not take it too seriously. You can always just unfollow someone, delete a post, or turn off your phone.

“You don’t wait until you’re an expert to do it. Doing it is how you become an expert.”

7.What is your philosophy about life? Or a mantra, quote or proverb you want to share with us?

A quote that I’ve resonated with a lot recently, not sure where it originates;

“You don’t wait until you’re an expert to do it. Doing it is how you become an expert.”

8. What’s your dream travel destination or the next place you want to visit? #TravelWithDot

I would love to visit Colorado in the summer.

9. What’s your favorite food experience you would take me to in your city, and what would we eat? #EatWithDot

Sushi!

10. Who has been a mentor or someone you have looked up to for advice and inspiration? How do they help or how have they helped you?

For inspiration, I look to Jade Darmawangsa. She is absolutely killing it as a founder and content creator.

11. Dragon or Unicorn? Why?

Unicorn. They aren’t as dangerous.

12. What are you working on right now, what gets you excited?

Continuum. We are building an all-in-one platform for collaborative freelance work that will empower the next generation of freelancers and creatives. There’s so much cool stuff to make for the future of work and the creator economy.

13. What keeps you up at night??

How I can be a cooler entrepreneur – lol.

The Fast 5

1) Your favorite Instagram feed right now:

This is super difficult, but I think @bumblebizz is doing an incredible job at their content and aesthetics.

2. What is the Best Life advice (or lesson learned in business) you ever received:

I think it goes back to my quote for number 7!

3) Best website/destination you go to for inspiration:

Pinterest, it’s basic, but so damn good.

4) The App you can’t live without?

Twitter – I have made amazing friends and connections on there.

5) Book we should all read?

Marty Neumeier’s books are incredible. Everyone should understand branding in the age of social media.

6) Online course suggestions?

The Futur on youtube! They have great courses and incredibly valuable content.
