My Domestika course teaches personal branding on Instagram. So how to visually brand your profile but also how to carry your values, voice and vision across the platform too.

Meet VIX MELDREW: A PERSONAL BRANDING EDUCATOR, SPEAKER, AND FOUNDER OF GLOW & GROW

Vix is the founder of Grow & Glow and teaches thousands of students on her Domestika course how to grow their personal brands. She spent 4 years learning everything there is to know about building a personal brand that launches an online business. Now Vix helps creative business owners build stand-out personal brands.

It’s such a pleasure to have you on the #DESIGNWITHDOT blog Vix!

1. Vix, what is the biggest mistake people are making with their personal brands and how can they fix it?

Consistency. Your visual branding and tone of voice needs to carry across all of your platforms. Ensure you have the same handles and domains, if possible and write your blog posts like you write your Instagram captions. People like people and if they see a different version of you across the internet, it won’t sink in with them.

2. What does your Personal Branding course on Domestika teach? What’s the biggest takeaway?

It teaches personal branding on Instagram. So how to visually brand your profile but also how to carry your values, voice and vision across the platform too. The biggest takeaway from the students who have already taken the course are the content pillars!

3. What’s your dream? (Where do you want to see your life and the world in 10 years? Year 2031!?

I’d love to continue to grow my community Grow & Glow into an even bigger hub for education and training on everything, ‘building a brand online’!

Keep evolving. Keep changing. You don’t have to stick with something you don’t enjoy. No one really cares if you want to spend 7 years training and working as a teacher to leave and build your own business. So do what feels right! Take the leap.

4. You’ve worked with so many amazing people and projects. What has been your favorite experience in your career so far?

The Domestika project was an incredible experience. I love teaching so to get to record a course, super professionally and teach for all of the days of filming whilst visiting Madrid, where I’ve never been before, was a pinch me moment.

5. What advice would you give to your younger self 10 years ago?

Keep evolving. Keep changing. You don’t have to stick with something you don’t enjoy. No one really cares if you want to spend 7 years training and working as a teacher to leave and build your own business. So do what feels right! Take the leap.

6. What are your thoughts on social media? Hate it? Can’t live with out it? Give us your best social media tip or insight!

It definitely has it’s dark places but social media is a vehicle for so many women creating their own businesses and therefore getting freedom in their lives – gotta love that. My biggest tip is that when you’re just a team of one, you don’t have to be everywhere. Choose 1 or 2 social media platforms and get reaaaally good at them instead of trying to touch on everything.

7.What is your philosophy about life? Or a mantra, quote or proverb you want to share with us?

Everything is always working out for me.

8. What’s your dream travel destination or the next place you want to visit?

My husband and I had to cancel our honeymoon to the Maldives due to Covid-19 travel restrictions so we’d love to go there. However, I’ve been obsessed with Married at First Sight Australia lately and the couples sometimes honeymoon in Samoa and it looks outrageous!

9. What’s your favorite food experience you would take me to in your city, and what would we eat? #EatWithDot

I live in a very sleepy Kentish countryside village so we don’t have too many cuisine options. So I would take you to the beautiful Sissinghurst Castle and buy you a coffee and a scone.

10. Who has been a mentor or someone you have looked up to for advice and inspiration? How do they help or how have they helped you?

I first went to a retreat by Alice Benham (who is also releasing a Domestika course) back in 2019. That retreat was transformational for me, I then worked with her as a coach before becoming actual friends. She is an incredible coach and educator who has helped me find my way with my business and really lean into what I love to do.

11. Dragon or Unicorn? Why?

Dragon! Tough skin and will breathe fire on the things I’m passionate about.

12. What are you working on right now, what gets you excited?

We’re currently working on bringing some structure to our Grow & Glow membership to help our members work through learning pathways as we have hundreds of resources and trainings and it can often be tough to know where to start once you become a member. So I’m really excited to introduce our learning ‘Tracks’ and help our members see real progress with building their brands online.

13. What keeps you up at night??

My to do list! I often wake up thinking, ‘ooh I need to remember to do that too!’ but it’s only because I love my business!

The Fast 5

1) Your favorite Instagram feed right now:

@davetalas

2. What is the Best Life advice (or lesson learned in business) you ever received:

Criticism is merely feedback. It reflects on the person giving and what they value, not on what you deliver.

3) Best website/destination you go to for inspiration:

I love the Later blog which gives me content ideas when educating about Instagram

4) The App you can’t live without?

Plann – running 3 online profiles/businesses means I need to plan content ahead as much as possible. I’ve tried Later and Planoly too but I love Plann at the mo.

5) Book we should all read?

Building a Story Brand by Donald Miller – it teaches you to centre your audience in your brand as the hero so you always remain as their guide.

6) Online course suggestions?

I’ve recently taken Sell That Thing by Ray Dodd which has super useful guidance on how to sell your products and services in a way that feels aligned to you.

Thank you Vix for joining us!
